Service DevOps Engineer Intern

About the Role

Working primarily with the CTO of our partner game studio, the Service DevOps Engineer is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the health and resiliency of the studio’s backend services. The backend is primarily Azure based and makes extensive use of Azure Functions and Azure Table Storage along with Azure Blob Storage, Azure Queue Storage, Azure Service Bus and Azure PubSub. The backend is written in Typescript and runs on Node.js. This role does not require direct software development experience, for the right candidate this role could become a hybrid DevOps and Software Development role. As part of the role, there will be opportunities for both technical and career mentoring including regular 1-1s with the CTO and participation in the wider team’s meetings.

Requirements

Responsibilities: 

  • Backend infrastructure configuration

  • Managing service code deployments

  • Backend health monitoring including critical error alerts

  • Identifying ways to improve all aspects of our backend including deployment, monitoring documentation, alerts, metrics, reporting

  • Development of scripts and tooling as appropriate

  • Load Testing and Scalability

  • CI/CD

  • Documentation of existing systems and processes

  • Basic Security analysis and threat modeling


Required: (please ensure you meet the listed requirements prior to applying)  

  • Hands-on, demonstrable experience of working with a large IAAS such as Azure, AWS, GCP or CloudFlare

  • Basic understanding of web-based applications and life-cycle such as request, response as well as core concepts such as HTTP response codes, request headers, etc.

  • REST based Web Services

  • Familiarity with JSON

  • Basic experience of scripting - bash, python,batch scripts, powershell, etc

  • Working familiarity with Git.


Preferred: 

  • Working knowledge of Linux, particularly command line tools

  • Some working knowledge of industry standard deployment and management tools such as Docker, Kubernetes and Terraform

  • Python development experience

  • Typescript/Javascript + Node.js development experience
